I Am A Man: From Memphis A Lesson In Life
A Film to Honor Forgotten Heroes
Produced by Memphis Tourism Foundation
"I Am A Man" spotlights the sanitation workers whose courage changed the course of history history. The idea for the 30-minute documentary film came from the April 4, 2008, commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As part of that ceremony in the Memphis City Hall, a special tribute was organized for the sanitation workers by the Memphis Tourism Foundation. What began as an effort to film that special day through short oral history interviews soon evolved into this project to shine light on the often forgotten heroes of the civil rights movement.
