Dining Out With The Foundation Chairman

Recently, I've had the chance to visit what I and several other folks I know have said is "the best Chinese restaurant in Shelby County."  The New Asia restaurant, Exeter Village Center, 2075 Exeter Road, Germantown, TN.  The owners were formerly a part of Asia Palace on Covingington Pike.

The restaurant if fairly new and the decor is rather plain.  There is some wall decor, but not a lot of the heavy red and black items that is so typical.  It's by and large just one big open room with lots of seating space.

I met my wife and daughter there for dinner the other night.  We started off with Hot and Sour Soup which was particularly good, hot with fire and sour with just the right spices.  My favorite however is the Won Ton Soup.  The Won Tons were excellent.  The dough was chewy and the pork filling was very tasty.  Going back to the Hot and Sour Soup for a moment, I can take Tofu or leave it, but they do something to it, that really gives it a unique flavor.

Main courses consisted of Buttered Scallops, with Chinese Vegetables, Chines String-beanes with Ground Beef, and Mu Shu Pork.   The pancake wrappers were tissue thin and were a perfect carrier for the filling of shredded pork, cabbage, bamboo shoots, onions, chinese spices and hoisin sauce.

Every dish is cooked to order and served hot from the kitchen.  The spices are as they should be (perhaps just for an american palate) and  as many times as we have eaten here, the food has always been tasty and hot with fire.

The wait staff is pleasant, but not much English is spoken.  If you have any idea that you like, or think you'd like Chinese food, do yourself a favor and visit New Asia.
They accept all credit cards and the food is reasonably priced.  By the way, they have two menus at New Asia, the red one is strictly Chinese dishes while the green one is Americanized Chinese.  We usually stick with the red one.
