Work in the corporate accounting department for Pinnacle Airlines Corp (the “Company”). Provide leadership and direction to the corporate accounting staff as it produces timely and accurate financial reports for the Company’s two operating subsidiaries: Colgan Air, Inc. (“Colgan”), a newly acquired company located in Manassas, VA and Pinnacle Airlines, Inc. (“Pinnacle”), located in Memphis, TN. Initial responsibilities will be to provide assistance to the Director of Accounting and Controller to transition the accounting department of Colgan from Manassas, VA to Memphis, TN. Provide oversight, direction and monitoring of accounting staff of the business unit to ensure compliance with the reporting requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley. Also, serve as the business unit’s primary liaison to the director of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance to ensure the timely and accurate updating of documentation regarding practices and procedures of the accounting department. Manage all GL accounting activity for the assigned business unit to ensure that results are presented accurately and timely in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Responsibilities in this area will include the following: Managing all aspects of the monthly close process to produce accurate and timely financial statements. This will include the review and preparation of recurring journal entries and reconciliations of balance sheet accounts. Manage the preparation of a monthly close package for the business unit that is presented to the Controller, including comparisons of actual results to budgeted results and causes of significant variances. Participate in monthly budget meetings with executive management to review the financial results of the business unit. Obtain a complete understanding of all key contracts relevant for the business unit and the critical terms within each contract. Participate in the evaluation of contracts for potential accounting issues. Assist accounting management in meeting the requests of external auditors during quarterly and annual reviews of financial statements. Develop and project a through understanding of the business unit’s operations and key performance indicators. Actively participate in efforts that can improve overall productivity and in meaningful profit generation activities. Primary Attributes: Develop and apply effective techniques for planning and execution of assignments. Maintain work in a complete and organized manner as it relates to workpapers, files and source documents. Communicate exceptions and non-routine matters to relevant company personnel. Demonstrate effective leadership qualities to include willingness to take ownership for issues relating to accounting, actively initiate steps to continually improve the effectiveness of the accounting function and actively exhibit and promote a Pinnacle team orientation. Exercise conscientious and courteous communications both written and oral with Pinnacle and non-Pinnacle personnel. Other Functions: Perform additional functions that are assigned from time to time. Typical Physical Demands: Majority of job duties will be performed sitting and working on a personal computer. Working in accounting files will require standing, bending and stooping. Working with historical information files will require movement and handling of boxes weighing up to 40 pounds. Typical Working Conditions: Work will be performed at the corporate office and will include working and meeting with employees from other departments and buildings. Work at the offices in the airport terminal, at the maintenance hangar and facilities outside Memphis may be required. Minimum Qualifications: Accounting degree from major educational institution, CPA certification, six to eight years accounting experience in Big Four public accounting firm or comparable experience. Experience would include the supervision of audit engagements of medium to large publicly traded companies. Significant experienced in use of personal computers and related software (Excel, Word). Special Requirements: Position may require working on nights and weekends as required to meet department deadlines.
